| Painted walls:
Wash the wall thoroughly with water added Flügger 37 according to the instructions. If your walls are very smooth alkyd or oil painted walls, you should subsequently sand them with coarse sandpaper and prime with e.g. Flutex 4 to ensure that the wallpaper adheres well to the wall.
Papered walls:
You should only paper on top of old wallpaper if it is well attached. You can control the adherence if you apply some adhesive on the wallpaper. If bulges appear it is not well attached and should be removed by cleaning. You should also remove the wallpaper if it is very uneven or if there are many layers on top of each other.
You can remove the wallpaper in several different ways:
With a steam wallpaper remover you can easily remove even the most intractable wallpaper.
NB: You may not use wallpaper softener before or in the evaporator, as it may cause toxic gases.
With wallpaper softener which you dissolve in water and apply to the old wallpaper until it is evenly wet. Leave the softener be until you easily can scrape off the wallpaper using a wide filling knife.
With cellulose adhesive which is applied to the wallpaper in a thick mix. Apply thin plastic film and leave it be for approx. 24 hours, after which you can easily scrape off the wallpaper. Make a small test first.
When you have removed the old wallpaper, you should sand the wall with sandpaper or scrape it with a wide filling knife until the surface is even. Dust off the wall with a brush until it is free from loose grains.
Scratch out cracks and holes and moist them with some water on a brush. Fill with Flügger Filler interior or Sand Filler LH. When the surface is dry you should sand the repairs smooth with sandpaper.
Usually, it is not necessary to prime walls previously papered. But if the old wallpaper does not adhere well to the wall, you can ensure a better adhesion by priming with e.g. Flutex 4. Large repairs, sand filler, and heavily absorbing or chalking walls should be primed with Flügger Sealer.
