The FIONA Wall covering factory was founded in 1897 by the artist and painter Mr. P.L. Bronner who studied under the famous Danish painters Mr. Zahrtmann and Mr. Kroyer.

At that time it was not unusual that painters would spend the winter time dreaming up new patterns for wall papers, print them by hand in the spring and sell them during the summer season.
In 1893 Mr. Bronner bought a workshop at the spot where the Fiona factory is located today. Fiona is the Latin name for the second largest Island in Denmark.
Mr. Bronner never forgot his artistic roots and what he had learned studying under the most famous Danish painters. Therefore he always strived to use the best possible raw materials and Fiona was thus the first wall
covering factory to introduce light proof wall papers.
Fiona developed from being the life work of an artist to a modern Danish factory with respect for tradition and craftsmanship. Fiona managed to survive into the 21st century by constantly adapting to the ever changing tastes of the Scandinavian consumers.
In 1984 Flügger acquired the Fiona factory as it is Flügger strategy to be the one stop shop for all interior decorators with a wide selection of quality products.
Like most wallpaper factories, Fiona is depending on experienced and skilled employees. All the existing production techniques, for instance surface print, screen print and gravure print demand their particular knowledge.
The latest trend in wall covering technology is the use of non woven material, where the print is applied on felt rather than paper. By using non woven material the process of applying wall covering has become much easier. Non woven does not change shape and does not need to soak in glue before application. Instead of applying glue on the wall covering the glue is now applied directly on the wall which makes the process significantly simpler.
Further non woven is produced in colorless but imprinted 1 meter wide project rolls. After application on the wall the customer can then choose to have the wall covering painted in any color he might like. This combines the beautiful design and warm feeling of wall paper with the infinite color choices of decorative painting.
